Today I went through my Christmas cards to take stock of “who sends” and “doesn't send” so I can cross off my list! :) I gave my husband Tom, the task of reading the names off the Christmas cards. Truly NOT a masculine job to give a guy so there was the making of SOMETHING comical right from the start.
I sat there with my new CVS glasses I must wear now due to age, schelpping down the list while he recited one card after the next. The Smith Family, the Jones family, Rob, James and Mary. Oh, and the Johnson's. Then, he got to my friend Ellen's card, hesitated. and called off the name, "Whispers", kind of confused but serious!!!! I dropped my pen and burst out laughing. Might be one of those moments where you HAD to be there but just knowing how Ellen can be, I had to crack up at Tom's delivery. He said it dead serious but you can tell from the sound in his voice, that he found the name peculiar as if I had a friend named, Whispers. “That’s just our friend Ellen listing her cats and her hampsters. She’s funny”, I said. He moved on unaffected but with that, “guy look” on his face like, “whatever”. Hahahaha
Jackie never sends out cards but I don't read much into it and I do send one back. Not sure if she's just not into it or if it has something to do with money reasons. I am sure she would have shared in this laugh over Ellen's card. Quite expensive card I might add, considering! :) That's just Ellen. Gotta love it!
Hope you're all enjoying the New Year and looking forward to a romantic, sexually sizzling Valentine's Day to come! :) heh heh
Mistro
National Christmas Center, Amish Country, PA |
We also visited the National Christmas Museum located in Intercourse, PA, a stone's throw away from Bird-in-Hand, PA where we stayed. I would highly recommend THIS museum. It's full of historical knowledge of Christmas while whimsical enough to keep the kiddies wide eyed and entertained. See my, "Cook Mistro Christmas" slideshow below for pics on our trip to the Amish Country, the National Christmas Museum, Christkindlemarkt in Bethlehem, PA and Hershey's Chocolate World and Hershey Park.

In Hershey we do the following:
Chocolate World is pretty important. You can go inside and take the factory tour for free. We take the factory tour then go and see Santa at the gingerbread house made of candy. You can also pay to actually make your own personal chocolate bar. We have done that once and it was a blast. They also sell the trolley tickets in the Chocolate World. The Trolley takes you around town and is very funny. Totally worth the surprises they have on the trolley for you.
The Christmas Candy Lane is behind Chocolate World. It has some rides open, but not all. Look for Santa and the reindeer. They are very cool. You can do all of this in one day. It is all within walking distance except Sweet Lights.
Hershey Sweet Lights - It's a 2.3 mile route through a wooded hillside of around 600 lights. You have to go at night and wear the 3d glasses. A total blast!
Enjoy!
Tom and I are planning a local, Christmas, road trip getaway. We've decided on Bethlehem, Pa where there is a Christkindlemrt and then we'll head down to the Amish Country for an old fashioned type Christmas at the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn. They include a King Bed and jacuzzi for $85/night. I am sure it will be full of fresh country air embellished by horse manure but it will add to the quaintness and charm that brings me so much joy reminsincing of Christmas' in the Old World. We're planning on visiting, the National Christmas Center, for some of this Old World Christmas charm. I'll have to let you know how that place is. It's not far from Hershey Park so we'll spend the day in the Amish Country and the evening, starting at 5pm, at Hershey Holiday Lane. Works out since my cousin's Christmas party is the next day and she lives in South Jersey. Better than traveling home to Long Island and then back to NJ the next day. Plus, I could use a change of pace, love the general stores, smorgesboards, country way of living-I feel like buying a quilt for REAL this time.
